emerging parents blog restarted

Hey folks! A blogger in Austin named Julie Clawson just posted that Emerging Parents is starting up again. Thought many of you would appreciate the link!
"Emerging Parents is a safe place for those involved in the emerging church conversation to explore holistic parenting ideas. We seek to discuss how we can follow Christ as parents, integrating our emerging faith and practices in with how we raise our kids. This is a place to explore, to suggest, to share, to question, and to support. All are welcome (non-parents included!) to join the conversation here."

Jamie...thanks for this link. I have already emailed Julie...with thoughts and questions. (o:
As we have discussed before to a great extent..."how are we to lead our children in this journey we find ourselves in...when we aren't sure of all of the particulars?"...it is difficult. I have noticed that there seems to be far fewer connections for me...as a 42 yr old mother of not only younger kids...but specifically teens/tweens...than there is for younger parents with infants and early elementary aged kids. The emerging communities that I have stumbled upon or into...seem to be made up of parents in their mostly 20's and young 30's...
I certainly value that perspective...and voice...but I am also craving some connection with parents of the emerging stream...who are also navigating parenting and the spiritual formation and outlets for teens and young adults...
Perhaps The Emerging Parent blog will be a resource for this!

Perhaps you could be one of the contributors?

Wouldn't that be a hoot...first...I need to have something more than confusion and spiritual fogginess to contribute??? Maybe? Thank you for being such an encourager!

Should there be a group like ours for teens? Could we facilitate something like this? I wonder what my kids are learning and feeling as they attend traditional church. Is there something they are going to have to undo some day?

I grew up with some messed up thoughts on marriage, sex, politics, judegemnts etc from church. I would like to give my kids a truer version of who Christ was/is.

I'd love to have or at least support an emerging group for teens and young adults. In many respects...I think that some of the older more naturally contemplative kids would meld well into the current group...some would not...especially those that have been baptized into the realm of religious entertainment and the me centered gospel.
I think the trick is begining the conversations at home...take advantage of natural teaching opportunities. There are SOOOO many right now given the politcal, social and economic global crises looming.
One thing that has been interesting in our house is the conversations that are coming up naturally with all of our kids...especially as we become more comfortable with where we are on our journey. Each of our kids has in their own way provided opportunities for us to infuse them with what Brian McLaren referes to a "new shaping story".( aka: world view) It is his oppiinion that one of the boldest things we can do as followers of Christ is to "stop believing" the old narratives that we've been fed... and to believe instead the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven...Get to know what Jesus world view is...
For me that has looked like really being open and excited about who Jesus is...what he taught and how we can live like Him today.
My kids are interested...in that.
But...I would definately like to see my kids find support and community and dialogue in the context of their peers as well. I agree with Charlotte...it is perplexing that we find so manythings that trouble us the institutional church...are those things that will eventually be life giving or 'dead weight' to our kids?
